Meet Jess Hansen
Coach Jess Hansen (Brodie) brings over 18 years of coaching experience to the court, with 15 of those at PSVBA. A standout outside hitter at Portland State University (2003–2006), Jess earned Big Sky All-Conference honors three times and was unanimously named the Big Sky Conference MVP her senior year. She shattered multiple school records in Kills, Kills per Set, Points, Attempts, Double-Doubles, Digs, and Aces, and was honored as Portland State’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2007.
Despite being an undersized front row player at just 5’6”, Jess became a force at the net thanks to her explosive vertical, relentless grit, and unmatched determination. Her leaping ability and fearless play earned her the nickname “Jumpin’ Jessica,” a fan favorite introduction from the game announcer during her college career. She worked her way into becoming the top player in the Big Sky Conference, proving that heart and hustle can outshine height.
Jess later played Libero for the Puget Sound Region’s Premier Volleyball League (PVL) team for all three seasons it was offered.
A proud Emerald Ridge High School alumna and Puyallup native, Jess has always prioritized giving back to her community. She’s led countless volleyball clinics and camps for youth ages 7–18 and has coached PSVBA club teams ranging from U11 to U18. Throughout her coaching career, Jess has qualified nine teams for USAV Nationals, earned two Open bids, and captured multiple regional titles. Her passion lies in skill development, and she’s known for fostering strong fundamentals, a competitive spirit, and building confidence in every athlete she coaches. In 2016, she launched the PSVBA “Littles” program alongside longtime friend and fellow coach, JZ.
Outside of the club, Jess serves as the Regional Director for Vie Athletics, an all-women’s strength and conditioning gym. She’s also been inducted into both the Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame and the Emerald Ridge High School Hall of Fame, and is a proud Legacy Ambassador for lululemon. Jess has trained high school and collegiate athletes, as well as hundreds of women in the community over the last 15 years. Her certifications include: ASFA Speed & Agility, USA Weightlifting, and NASM Women’s Fitness Specialist.
Jess brings unmatched energy, deep knowledge, and genuine heart to everything she does, on and off the court.
